TMJ and Headaches

What Is TMJ?

The Temporo-Mandibular Joint (TMJ) is the jaw joint. People with Temporo-mandibular (TMJ) dysfunction can have pain due to stress, chronic clenching, abnormal disc movement, trauma, poor posture, dental procedures, and even pregnancy.

When you have pain in your head and neck, it can feel isolating as you experience fatigue with talking and difficulty eating typical foods. It is hard to feel at your best when you cannot communicate your needs and provide nourishment to your body the way you want.

  • Joint mobilizations of the TMJ joint can minimize crepitus and joint noises as well as improve mobility in the case of limited mouth opening

  • Joint stabilization exercises and Robocado exercises are useful in providing more stability in the joint and minimizing progression of pain and dysfunction

  • Myofunctional assessment to assess factors perpetuating chronic tension and grinding.
